+ Notes
Quick wrap-up on some of my positive notes from the Men's Shows in NYC for SS10!
3.1 Phillip Lim
This collection was very well done. It was excellently styled and had a great sense of direction for the 3.1 Phillip Lim customer. It seems tailored perfect for the emerging American male. It took iconic American pieces and updated them i.e. scoop neck grey sweater seen. I did think there was a look or two that had somewhat of a Prada influence (concerning necklines and look of fabrics used), but all in all I think it was wearable and forward without seeming like it was trying to hard. On a sidenote: I thought the key bumble necklaces were perfect, kudos on the styling again.
Duckie Brown
The bright shade of blue on the shoes and a few of the other garments used through the beginning of the collection were perfect and provided for a required burst of energy to start the show. The big bow shorts were definitely a risk which I applaud him for taking. I give Duckie Brown high marks this season for sure.
Richard Chai
I generally enjoy Richard Chai's mens shows, he is able to create understated forward wearable pieces and the same applies to this season. That being said I don't think this was his strongest mens show to date it was missing a clear definition and perspective almost a hodge podge. This was his first show to my knowledge that he showed suiting, he is definitely evolving and experimenting which might account for my earlier account. I like the muted color he uses and loved the boy flip hats. It was young and smart- which I appreciate. Keep your eye on Richard Chai.
Robert Geller
Stellar color, delicate fabrics, layered fantastically with a gothic touch is how I would describe Robert Geller’s collection this season. I really thought the looks were well thought out and definitely contributed to this new Amercan male look that I hinted at and saw in Phillip Lim’s show. There were many pieces and actually whole looks I could absolutely see myself in. I must say it was giving me Gaspard Yurkeiviech-Lanvin-Rick Owens love child, translated in a good way- which I must say is a beautiful thought. Definitely one of my favorites of the season.
Thom Browne
The Thom Browne show definitely echoed everything that is Thom Browne- there was an interesting mix of layers, cuts, and prints complete with man minis and signature short short pants. I wasn’t crazy about a few of the jackets as they didn’t seem particularly aesthetically pleasing as far as fit is concerned or functionalality, but I have to come to expect this from his shows past. It's part of his show and his humor, I say good for him I love when men's designers have a little fun in their presentations. His use of bright primary yellow was great and I was living for the bucket-pac-man-darth vader- 60’s inspired helmet.
Victor Glemaud
I was pleasantly surprised by this collection. While only a few looks were shown, I loved the lines he created on a few tops and thought the high white socks he paired with most of his looks were the perfect accessories. At times I thought certain color choices were off, but for all he has his hands in I think he did a good job!

Anna Wintour - David Letterman
Anna Wintour promoting her new documentary on the David Letterman Show last night . . . and I swear, I watched it . . . and there were moments that were awkward and I felt like she was a fish out of the water . . . the general public doesn't want to know about Thom Browne or lipstick . . .
I can't wait for the movie to come out!!!!

Thought I would share this interesting post from the cut about meggings. I must give credit to the styling of the Givenchy Spring 09 show. Why not?

"Stylesight has been noticing a lot of men in leggings lately, and kindly e-mailed us the above snapshots. Apparently meggings have been pouring into the streets of New York, Paris, London, and Tokyo since last year. Men wear them year-round as a fun way to practice layering, mix up everyday proportions, and stay warm. It was only a matter of time before men discovered what Lindsay Lohan discovered about leggings long ago — that they are awesome, extremely versatile, and even more fabulous in leopard print. Well, it's probably too soon to confirm that last part, but men will inevitably branch into new colors and patterns. All kinds of meggings have been popular on the men's runways for seasons. Because whatever women fall in love with, men will inevitably fall in love with some years later, like manpris, mirdles, or short shorts, to name a few. And of course increasingly tight pants are sweeping through the male community faster than you can say, "Can Zac Efron even sit down in those?" Meggings offer the stretch he needs."

Quote du Jour!
This one is for you Jamie!
Maureen Cummings: Erik got injured today. And do you know the first thing I thought when I saw him go down?
Jim Gordon: What?
Maureen Cummings: "I wish that was me." So that made me think, you know, 'cause that's not a normal reaction. How much of what you liked about me was because I was a dancer, and how much because I was me."

Black Market
While in Stockholm, Jamie and I were talking to the locals, discussing where the rack scene was and we were pointed in the direction of Black Market. Somewhat hidden and inconspicious on Eriksgatan St. we stumbled upon its black doors and met the kind and intelligent shop owner- Cecilia Wallin. Through the velvet rope, down the all-black staircased entrance, we entered into the designer clad subterranean shop. We obviously loved the store and its layout with a meticulously chosen selection of designers ranging from Comme des Garçons , Bernhard Willhelm, Complex Geometries, Henrik Vibskov, Jeremy Scott, Damir Doma, to Vivienne Westwood! I decided we had to find out more! So I sat down with Cecilia for an interview to unearth the story of Black Market‘s origins, Stockholm and a bit of her own journey. Stay tuned for the full story in the first issue! In the meantime checkout the store's website at http://www.blackmarketsthlm.se/ or in person at St Eriksgatan 79 SE 133 32 Stockholm, Sweden!
I noticed you support a lot of young designers. What is the rhyme or reason to why you buy from the designers you do?
- The new and young designers aren’t afraid of anything. They aren’t shaped or affected by the industry yet. Some of the designers went to fancy schools and some of them haven’t- I enjoy the mix a lot. This mix is how I built my concept for the store. In the mix is where interesting things happen. That’s how people dress today. It’s like flickering through someone’s wardrobe. I think it can be confusing for customers the first time you come in… you have to spend time and go through every piece and think about it. I want people tp come in and have the time to try things on and experiment.

Formula
For all y'all who wants to be featured at the Sartorialist . . . this is a little formula to get in that blog! I think it's a bit pretentious to be even thinking to be featured in style blogs . . . I mean, I'm so over Facehunter . . . I mean, you are who you are . . . and that should be it . . . you shouldn't have to be someone else just to be mentioned on those blogs . . . everyone has their opinion and you should just listen to your instinct and be your own person!
