CK Jeans

I have no words!!!

Ash Stymest

OMFG . . . when I first saw pictures of Ash . . . I was like . . . another Hedi Slimane boy . . . however, this past men's show . . . his antics and animated face . . . made him my Boy Du Jour! Who said that the waif boys are going out of style . . . pluuuuueeezzzeee! PS: Is he playing both of the field??? I know he's BFFs with Cole Mohr and Cullen Turner . . . do I smell a menage a trois? If so, I wanna be in the middle of that twink fest!

Haute Couture

Haute Couture season is here and with the economic climate at a dire state . . . I'm happy that those Jordanian clients are still in attendance and snatching these one of kinds for their closets! . . . Yet again, my fave is Dior . . . gosh, I wish I could afford these dresses!

Back to the Future

Fashion and beauty trends are often cyclical. There are only so many references one can pull from, so designers and art directors are left to modernize and combine trends and eras. As of late, the 80's have been all over the beauty industry. Heavy and expressive eyes, purposeful lips and major attitude! The 80's rears it's head every few seasons, but this time has come back without the tackiness of the excess decade. Advertising is getting straight to the point...

Chanel S/S 09~ Doesn't this scream Carol Alt?

Dior Beauty S/S 09~ Very California Dreamin' with Cheryl Tiegs.

YSL Beauty S/S 09~ Coco does Pat Benatar.

Prada campaign or Robert Palmer video?

John Galliano brings Adam Ant back to life.

John Galliano for his men's collection for Fall 09 was inspired by the mythical creature: Pan . . .
The show was amazing . . . I love the mix of pirates and greek mythology . . . Gosh, what I would given to be in the front row of that show!
PS: The makeup . . . it was BANANAS!

Gareth Pugh

The stand out men's collection thus far in Paris . . . Gareth Pugh!
This is his first menswear collection . . . and I am obsessed!!!
It's like Mad Max meets Neo Nazi meets street urchin . . . what else can you ask for . . . homeless chic at its best!!!!
I can just imagine the price points on those jeans!!!

Hello Kitty for MAC

MAC Cosmetics has teamed up with Sanrio Global Consumer Products to create a Hello Kitty color cosmetics collection. The line will arrive on MAC’s Web site Feb. 10, in North American stores on Feb. 12 and into overseas stores in March.

The Hello Kitty offerings fall into two collections: the Hello Kitty Colour Collection and the more high-end Hello Kitty Kouture. The bulk of the items are in the former category: six shades of lipstick with names like Fashion Mews and Strayin’, each $14; six Lipglass shades, each $14; and two tinted lip conditioners, $14.50 each; two eye shadow palettes, which each contain four shades and retail for $38; two shades of pigment are $19.50 each, and two Reflects Glitter stockkeeping units — one blue, one pink — are $17.50 each. Four Glitter Eye Liners, each $16.50, two shades of Beauty Powder, each $22; three shades of nail polish, each $11; a black mascara, $12, and false lashes, $12, round out the color offerings. Shades range from pinks and turquoises to lavenders and greens.

Hello Kitty Kouture is intended to be the high end of the collection. Two shades of Dazzleglass, each $28, each feature a reusable silver chain pendant with Hello Kitty outlined in white Swarovski crystals on black with a pink crystal bow. Sheer Mystery Powder, $90 and available in three shades, is packaged in a silver powder compact with Hello Kitty outlined in white Swarovski crystals with a pink crystal bow on a black background.

What's the Outfit!

The National US Figure Skating Championship is upon us . . . and all I'm looking forward to all the chiffon and the bedazzles on those unitards . . . and I'm talking about the men's competition! Johnny Weir . . . the most "fabulous" and fierce skater out there . . . mind you . . . he's been spotted sporting a Chanel quitted purse backstage! WORK!!! But, now the newbies are coming up and dare I say it . . . there as flamboyant as the rest of them . . .
Jeremy Abbott and Brandon Mroz (who trains at the same rink together) are coming on their own with their fluttering hand jesters and triple jumps!
(Gosh, how much would I pay to see all the drama backstage with glaring eyes and all the backstabbing gossip going on!)

I just can't wait for the World Championship that is being held here in LA in March . . . I will be in the stands covering all the cutting up and shadiness of the championship!
I can't wait!
PS: One trend at the Nationals for the men . . . SKIN!
Loads of cut-out on the shoulder and even goes down to the side torso . . . yum! I wish they changed the rule about men on tights???

What Not To Wear

OMG! Have you seen this!!!
I get it . . . but I feel like they're all posers!
I've sat beside Kanye at Henrik Vibsov's show last season . . . and he tries to hard to be in the scene . . . but I got to tell you . . . all the fashionistas didn't want to make space in the front row for him!!!

Parental Control

I've gathered up pictures from my archives and made a mini-editorial of the kids I work with . . .
This is the future if not the present . . . LEGENDARY CHILDREN!

Pre-Fall 09

These are some of my favorite looks from the recent Pre-Fall collections...

Alexander McQueen, inspired by Charles Dickens

Moschino, love the military inspired jacket and stove pipe pants

Lanvin, very Parisian. One of many who is showing leather gloves

Isaac Mizrahi doing shape effortlessly with bell sleeves and bi-level skirt

Bottega Veneta does an amazing cape

Menswear Fall 09

This season for the Mens collection in Milan . . . well, I'm a little underwhelmed . . . I guess, with the economy in such a dire state . . . understandably the designers look for more conservative and quiet collection . . . although, there were a few standouts for me . . .
You can count of Alexander McQueen to incorporate leather aprons to be a part of a man's clothing vernacular next Fall! And of course, Prada . . . Muccia is always playing with proportion and details . . . the studs on that long coat . . . I'd DIE!!!
Let's see what the Paris collection is going to come up with . . . please no more BLACK!!!

Betch of the Week: Chris Austad

Starting a new series . . . let's see if it takes off!
Well, I had a page on my website called "Bitch of the Week" (sorta like Model of the Week at but I ask really dare I say it . . . off the cuff questions with models and fashion insiders!

So, the first victim is my friend, Chris Austad (Major Models).
As you can see . . . he's the face of Hugo Boss Frangrance!
I've known him for years . . . bumping to each other around the world . . . and I just love hanging out with him . . .

Here's what I asked him . . .

Where did you grow up?
Reppin Bellflower, CA!

Describe yourself as if you were a personal ad:
27 yrs old, straight male, blonde hair, blue eyes, athletic build, Mr. Right?? I've been told I'm decent looking, I'm confident, ambitious, love to travel, very active & stay fit, healthy, honest, loyal, optimistic, love the beach, dogs over cats, brutally honest which isn't always a good thing, very open to all peoples & cultures, and a huge Laker fan!

Is there competition between models?
yes, there is competition between models. I like to sabotage them. I get them drunk on beeer & feed them pizza, cheeseburgers, and fries to make them fat. Then I laugh really hard becaues I'm so devious! I will book every job!

Do you get free stuff?
yes, I get some things from them because I have to represent them when I do appearances or attend events. I have 5 new tailored suits hangin in the closet. stayin suited & booted!
oh ya, and the head designer for Boss Black sent me my wedding tux all the way from Stuttgart, Germany. Muchas Gracias!

Weird mishaps on shoots or in travels?
So I was booked to shoot the commercial for the Hugo Boss Pure fragrance and it was in Prague. I was in NY at the time, but spent the weekend before back home in LA. Well anyways, I get to JFK all amped for this HUGE job and I was ready to check in firstclass and do my thing, when I can't find my passport! Dammit! I couldn't book my flight, the passport was gone. I called my agency at the time which was IMG and they were pissed but cool with me on the phone. The client, production house, everyone was pissed off. I had to go all the way back into the city, spend the night, mean while everyone and their mommas was calling me to see what happened. i cost the production an insanely amount of $$ due to me not being there the first day to shoot. But somehow IMG had a contact, who had a contact, who knew a carrier that was able to pull off a miracle at the state dept. I got a new passport without my SS card! I didn't sleep that night due to nerves and people calling me from France, Prague, & NY. Then in the morning I had to go to 2 dif offices and then to the NY St. Dept of travel or something. It was raining, I was drenched, in the same clothes from the day before. And after all this it came down to the wire last min, they called my name to pick it up as I was on the phone with IMG and the client & they were about to cancel me from job. They had a car servie go pick up my luggage, come grab me from the passport office, and rush me to JKF, barely making my flight to Prague. I dried off while sitting in my 1st class seat. I showed up not having slept in 2 days, and directly went into set to shoot the first day. it was so crazy!

Have you done runway shows?
Are you energized by it or is just a job?

I do runway on the westcoast thru my runway agency LA Models, but never the big shows in Milano, Paris, or NY. I've been told I'm not a show guy. I take it as a compliment cause those guys are so skinny & androgynous. I'm more of an alpha male with a good build, classic looking. I've done prob 100 shows or more over the last 7yrs, the biggest & most fun being the Macy's Passport show in SF & LA.

Do you want to do something different later on in life?
of course, I just dont' know what the something else is yet. if you know, could u please tell me??

What is your guilty pleasure?
salt, chocolate covered almonds from Trader Joe's. and aside from watching ESPN over & over, I watch the Real World MTV even tho it fries your brain.

Who plays you in a movie?
I play myself in a movie. who else gonna do it? maybe Denzel Washington

What makes you cry?
Peeing after I've held it really long time

Who is your fashion icon?

Fave designers?
Fave designer is the boss, Hugo BOSS!

Who would you go gay for?
Chris Austad. he's so hot

Top or Bottom??
Do straight people know what that means?

Legendary Children

When things are down . . . I ask myself, "what would Blanche do in this situation?" or "What would Malory say?" or "Would Siouxsie kick some ass?" or "Should we have a drink, Patsy?" or "Should I do something different with my hair, Spike?" or "How would Kate do with this pose?" or "You better work, betch!"

Dree Hemingway . . . now that's skinny!
Fashion Week is upon us . . . liquid diet from here on out for me!

Lutefisk Homme

Furries is such the rage!
Coming sooner than later!

Makeup and the Art of the Test

I don't do test photoshoots as much as I'd like because I am very particular about the people I choose to work with. At this point in my career as a makeup artist, I don't need to test, but like to as it's a way of networking, growing and sharing my skills. I can always use more editorial style looks, but therein lies the problem; not everyone knows what editorial means. Some people think it's Glam (Kim Kardashian), Scenester (Cory Kennedy) or Costume (The more ridiculous the better. McQueen would do this, right? Um, no.) Ergo, testing is both a blessing and a curse!

I had a test shoot last week and had high hopes. The photographer was excited, so that's always good! The model had a really interesting look, but to my horror had very bad skin. I mean very. I don't normally use full coverage makeup as it's obvious on film and outdated, but I had to, saving the photographer a little photoshop time. The assistant was a little more specific with what they wanted than originally planned, but I rolled with it and did my best.

The model, who was an African American girl, seemed a little concerned with the color of foundation I chose for her and tells me that it's not what she normally wears. She has yellow undertones and was using red undertones. I told her that color was her correct color (I have eyes). The assistant then proceeds to tell the model that she 'should have asked her to bring her own makeup'. I was a tad offended because after 10 plus years doing makeup, I know how to match up foundation, especially women of color. They had seen my work before hand, where was the trust? Also, I am glad she didn't remind her because it would have been the wrong color! The solution? Have the photographer shoot her to double check. The result? It looked perfect.

The hair was nondescript as was the choice of dress, but in a bind, I only need beauty shots, so I wasn't too concerned. The model also needed quite a bit of direction with posing and finding her key light, and when left to her own devices wasn't much better. For everyone's credit, there were some good shots. The last style was a throwaway for me as the makeup that was called for plus the experimental hair style (fantasy?) and clothing (goth?) is not something I can use. But this is what a test shoot is for, to experiment and get something for everyone's book.

I have not yet seen the proofs, but if I can get at least one good beauty shot, then it was worth my time. I have another test next week, but have worked with the photographer before and I get to do whatever I want makeup wise, so I am looking forward to it! So if you are on the fence about testing, just go for it! Create, evolve and have fun!

Leigh Bowery

The ultimate style icon . . . Leigh Bowery!
I mean, just out of this world . . . how far out she is with her fashion . . . no boundaries . . .
I mean, fashion houses base their collection on her . . . i.e. Martin Margiela!!!
So, kids, do your homework and know your references, betches!

Club Kids

Now, these kids are pioneers . . . I remember watching this on Geraldo back in the early '90s and I swear, it was a turn point in my life . . . I wanted to be like them and I wanted to move to NYC! I remember, I was 17 years old when I went to NYC by myself . . . I couldn't come in to the clubs back then . . . but I remember riding the subway and seeing a couple of clubkids in it . . . and I was like . . . when I grow up, I wanna be like them!

Quote Du Semaine

Say what you like,
Do what you feel,
You know exactly who you are.
The time is right know you've got to decide stand in the back or be the star!
